Smoked a crotch rocket

I did something stupid yesterday. Had some young guys on crotch rockets get a little cocky with me on my way home from a show last night. My wife was following me as the guys pulled up next to me at a light revving their engines so I returned the favor. When the light turned green they gunned it a little and slowed back down to look at me as if they wanted me to do the same so I obliged one time. They started popping wheelies and stuff then one guy pulled up next to me again. I gave him a thumbs up and and he nodded in approval and then the next pulled up and shook his head as if he were unimpressed. So we come to a light before an overpass that leads to a long road along the air base that served as an alternate runway back in the day. No buildings, no traffic just a wide open 4 lane road for about a half mile until it narrows down to 2 lanes. The guys on the bikes were in the right lane as if they were getting onto the highway. They were talking to one another and then pulled over behind my wife. The light turned green and I took off normally waiting to see what these guys were going to do. By the time they cut around my wife I was just on the other side of the overpass doing about 40 and I heard one of the bikes open up. I looked in the mirror and saw the one who shook his head coming on all out. So I dropped it into third and hammered it as he was about 8 car lengths behind me coming hard. He had his head down trying to get aerodynamic. I threw it into 4th as he was on my right and started pulling away. Not sure how fast I was going but I know I hit 142 as I glance at the HUD once sometime before I had to slow for the 2 lane narrowing and was about 4 car lengths up on him. He slowed as well and pulled over to wait for his friend then turned around heading back to the interstate. The wife could not stop talking about what she saw. She said it was the coolest thing she had ever seen. She was all geeked up. My legs were a little shaky when I got home. Just thought I would share and I do not endorse what occurred as it was stupid and dangerous.

Must have been an old-ass 600 or smaller. No way will a stock c5 hang with any modern sportbike. Good kill regardless.

I think it was a 600 or 800, hard to tell but I know it wasn't a 1000cc and up. It was just cool to lay the smack down on some kid who thinks he's the stuff on his bike. And hey, I drive no ordinary stock C5 my friend, I own a Z baby!

I can't tell you how many "non-ordinary stock C5 Z's" that I've laid the smack down on in my "ordinary stock C5"

Sounds like a great "ride" home. Here in central Pa, not many such opportunities.

I have a '99 Yamaha R1 as well as my '02 C5 Z06. I commute with both and I take both to the track regularly. I can tell you my bike is way quicker. I have taken my bike to the drag strip and with my 200 lb fat ass on it I can knock out 10.2's at 138 all day and that's with absolutely nothing done to the bike for drag racing. Both my car and my bike have similar mods, exhaust, suspension, and tires. At the track (the real track "road racing track", not the pussy I spent more money on my motor than you did track "drag strip") I run similar lap times with the car and the bike but they go about it in different ways. The bike accelerates much faster down the straights. The car can brake and turn harder. I ride and drive in the advanced group for both vehicles. I am at the back of the advanced group with my bike, at the front of the advanced group in the car.

If you beat a bike in a drag or acceleration race it's because it's a 600, it's a Harley, or the guy riding it is a tard.

Plain and simple, power to weight = acceleration. Any 1000cc bike is going to be quicker than a car, unless the car has boatloads of horse power.

Anyway, it's kind of fun to see how you do against other vehicles. I always suggest going to the track. If you go to your local drag strip you'll see what's fast and what's not. You'll also see how much money and modifications it's takes to make something faster vs pretty darn fast stock stuff.

If you have a pair go to your local road racing track and you'll see what's fast and what's not in the real world. You'll also see the same thing you'll learn at the drag strip about how much money and modifications are required to go really fast. At a road racing track you'll also see the difference driver skill makes in how fast you can really go no matter what vehicle you're driving or riding.

Get out there and do it!

Awesome. and I agree, probbaly a 600 bike, but nice way to show that a C5 Z06 is not something to mess with,... sometimes.

My brother has a YZF 1000 R1 and that is one bad ass bike. He has some awesome footage from around the Tampa area with his helmet cam. I think it's obvious most bikes would kill any sports/muscle car. The weight to thrust ratio of a bike is just sick and I know I would kill myself if I had one. It was fun to have a go with that kid but like I said, it was a small older bike, (the rider was probably a tard) and the run was at a roll so everything was in my favor. This was the first time I have ever done anything like that, it was stupid but it was fun. I would love to make a few passes at a strip however there are none within 100 miles of here.
