Talking Ceramic Brake Pads

My only complaint with the Challenger are the brakes... they work fine... in fact they are awesome... they will stop you on a dime... The issue is the amount of brake dust that is created. I've been told switching the brakes over to ceramic pads will eliminate this. Have any of you made the switch and is the reduction worth the expense

I've tried the switch and didnt think it was worth the change, and there was still dust although noticeably less, but the performance drop under hard brakeing was diminished more then I thought wipeing the wheels down was worth. Just my two cents.

I didn't think they worked as well as the stock pads, but then again it could be close, and I just over worked the ceramic ones more then the original ones.

I'd say you'd ne happy with them and the lower amount of brake dust. Let me know how it works out for you.

It will have to be a winter project... snow is just around the corner so it's just about time to put the Chally away for the winter

That's another thing that I like about southern Tennessee, basically get to drive your vehicles year round.

I'm with you on that, here on the coast line in NC if we get 1" snow for the year that is a lot for us.

When I lived in Syracuse NY we could get 1" every 15 minutes... Albany's not as bad. Yes you guys have it nice with the extended season... but man you need the extra season to clean all the bugs off the front of your car... man you grow them big down there!

I was just on the Challenger Forum and they had a Q&A session with the SRT engineers and they said the same thing... ceramic pad will help with dust but not perform as well as the stock padsJust thought I would share that and let you know you were on the money with your observations.

From what I've been hearing, if the car is just a daily driver than you probably won't notice that much of a difference during braking. However, if you do any amount of spirited driving and hard braking, you'll be sorely disappointed with how quick the brakes will fade.

On a somewhat related note, I had put some ceramic pads on my Z06, thinking that it'd be ok since my car is a daily driver. I had to do a emergency stop once from about 70 or so, and could already feel the brakes fading pretty fast. Now I'm using a semi-metallic pad that is low-dust, and although it's a lot better braking-wise, it's not quite the same as the stock pads.

(I know it's late to post this and all, but I just thought I'd throw it out there...)

How are the rotors holding up to the semi-metalic ones, I've heard they tend to wear the rotors down a little quicker then a less metallic material. (not that a set of rotors for a C5 really cost that much anyway, Stock that is.)

At this point, it's hard for me to say. I only recently changed the brake pads to the semi-metallic pads -- maybe 500 miles ago or so. The rotors are still the original ones that came with the car, and now have about 45,000 miles on them. I measured the thickness at the time, and it seemed like the rotors only had slight wear on them.

FWIW, I ran the same semi-metallic pads on my Accord and my rotors never got anywhere close to the minimum thickness, even after 200,000 miles (about 130,000 miles with the semi-metallic pads).

I guess with anything there is a good and bad, but I am with Ron, the ceramic tend to give you a bit less dust, but performance does suffer with them, stick with what works and GET THE DARN SPEEDO OUT HEMI and wash those wheels, LOL
